CerebralFix partnered with Niantic to create Emoji Garden, an augmented reality (AR) experience that lets users plant and interact with digital gardens filled with animated emoji characters. Leveraging the power of Niantic’s Lightship Augmented Reality Developer Kit (ARDK), Emoji Garden guides users to a Public Location so they can localize and engage in Shared AR play. 

Created as a showcase experience to highlight the potential of Niantic’s Lightship ARDK at the Augmented World Expo in 2023, the project demonstrated the potential of AR to create fun, engaging, and interactive experiences that blend the digital and physical worlds.

Key features utilized included:

Meshing and Occlusion: the ARDK’s meshing capabilities allowed the emojis to interact with real-world surfaces.

Semantics and Context Awareness: Lightship ARDK’s semantic segmentation capabilities allowed Emoji Garden to understand and identify real-world objects and surfaces for placing emojis accurately in the environment.

Networking and Multiplayer Features: The ARDK also facilitated multiplayer interactions, allowing multiple users to connect to the Public Location garden with friends and collaborate on garden designs in real-time.
